What started as a wonderful, sunny and happy day in the Netherlands, has turned into a great drama..
---
Crown prince Willem-Alexander and princess Maxima.
And the happy crowd..Today it's our Koninginnedag (Queensday), we celebrate the birthday of our queen Beatrix. The entire country is decorated, there is music everywhere, it's 'our' day. The royal family always visits two places and celebrates this day with the people. Today it was going to be a very special Koninginnedag, because of the 100th birthday of our former queen Juliana, the mother of Beatrix.
The royal family was in Apeldoorn, were they were riding in an open bus, when suddenly a car came trough the (large) crowd with high speed. Several people were hit when the car crashed to a monument. The royal family saw this happen and they were in shock. We all are. It was live on national tv.
At this moment (about 2,5 hours later) there are 2 people dead and 21 injured, 6 very bad. The man who drove the car is wounded but alive. Rumours are that this was an attack on our queen.
Koninginnedag will never be the same.
If you want to see a video of what happened, you can look here.

The royal family in the open bus. They saw the car crashed at a few meters distance..
The panic after the crash..

16.15: On the press conference is just told that there are 4 people killed, 5 badly injured and 8 lightly injured.
The man who did this, did it on purpose. We don't know yet why , the man is in the hospital and the police can't speak to him right now.
All festivities are stopped and the flags are hanging half-mast high.
It's unbelievable..

Goodness... I am so sorry to hear this.
Geke
That's just awful!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenWhat has this world come to? This is just not happening!!! I am so sorry to hear this!
BeantwoordenVerwijderen"Shocked" is certainly an appropriate word! I've missed this in the news here. So sorry to hear that people can resort to such things.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenUnbelievable!!!!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenI saw this on Hanneke and Jacquline's blogs and it just saddens my heart to no end.......sad sad sad.......
BeantwoordenVerwijderenI will NEVER understand why people who want to kill themselves, feel the need to kill others along with them. Of course the driver is still alive. Seems that's always the way it goes. The innocent are taken & the vicious SOB still gets to walk the face of the Earth.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenSo very sorry to hear. Many prayers & hugs from across the world...
